COBRA® aluminium buckles are known for their durability and reliability. However, even these high-quality buckles are not immune to corrosion, especially if the coating (= necessary protective layer) is damaged. Corrosive environmental conditions, such as sweat, chlorinated and salty air, exhaust fumes or corrosive solutions can affect the material and cause corrosion.
Permanent exposure to such conditions considerably shortens the service life of the COBRA® buckle. Proper care can prevent corrosion. Here are some useful tips.
1. If possible, remove the COBRA® buckle from the belt and clean it under lukewarm water. In the event of extreme soiling, use a mild soap.
2. After cleaning, thoroughly dry the buckle to prevent rust. Use a clean, dry cloth for this. Alternatively, you can simply let the COBRA® air dry.
3. Any moving metal parts (such as clips or D-rings), should be treated regularly with a dry lubricant, especially after cleaning. Dry lubricants oil the moving parts, without attracting dirt particles.
Regular cleaning, careful drying, the use of dry lubricants and a thorough inspection can significantly extend the life of your COBRA® buckle and ensure its reliability in various environmental conditions.
